Purpose

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Act 2013 highlights the importance of innovation, quality, continuous improvement, contemporary best practices, and effectiveness in delivering supports to people with disabilities. In alignment with this, the Continuous Improvement Plan for Business Name is designed to foster ongoing communication, encourage critical questioning, and conduct thorough analysis of both new and existing activities. This plan aims to ensure that Business Name achieves the highest standards of service delivery while implementing best practices consistent with the National Standards for Disability Services (the Standards) and the core principles of the NDIS.

Plan Objectives

  • A Culture of Excellence: Developing an organisational culture that values all individuals and is committed to continuously improving service quality to exceed expectations.
  • Effective Communication and Critical Thinking: Encouraging open information sharing across the organisation and fostering a mindset that challenges assumptions to identify better ways of working.
  • Alignment with Standards: Ensuring that all practices at Business Name align with the National Standards for Disability Services, translating the principles of the NDIS into actionable strategies that lead to measurable outcomes.

Definition of Continuous Improvement

The Standards define continuous improvement as: “The ongoing effort of an organisation to improve services, systems, processes or products to maximise benefits for its clients. The process of continuous improvement relies on evidence-based information to support the organisation’s success in achieving its goals and outcomes. This also means adapting to changing needs of the community or people using services.”

Scope and Activities

This Continuous Improvement Plan outlines structured activities to drive systematic improvements, including New Initiatives, Enhancements to Existing Practices, and Routine Assessments.

Objectives & Identifying Opportunities

The key objectives of this Continuous Improvement Plan are to enhance service quality, improve participant outcomes, increase operational efficiency, ensure compliance, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

Identifying Opportunities

Opportunities for continuous improvement can emerge from various sources, including daily operations, staff and participant feedback, and quality evaluations from internal audits, reviews, and performance evaluations. Improvement ideas are welcomed from all stakeholders, including participants, their families, carers, staff, and volunteers.

Key Areas for Improvement

  • Service Delivery: Focus on continuously improving quality, accessibility, and responsiveness.
  • Participant Experience: Enhance satisfaction and engagement by tailoring services to individual needs.
  • Staff Development: Invest in ongoing training and professional development.
  • Operational Processes: Streamline administrative and operational workflows.
  • Technology and Innovation: Harness innovative technologies to improve service delivery.
  • Risk Management: Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate risks.
  • Compliance and Governance: Maintain strict adherence to NDIS and other regulatory standards.

Exploring Ideas & Continuous Improvement Cycle

For each continuous improvement initiative, elements such as background, evidence, milestones and deliverables, intended outcomes, evaluation process, and reporting via the register must be considered.

Continuous Improvement Cycle (PDCA)

  • Plan: Identify areas for improvement, set improvement goals, and develop action plans.
  • Do: Implement actions, carry out plans, and monitor progress.
  • Check: Evaluate outcomes against defined goals and identify learnings.
  • Act: Standardise successful improvements into standard operating procedures and adjust/refine plans.

Participant Feedback, Staff Engagement & Monitoring Plan

Participants and staff are central to our continuous improvement approach. We commit to regularly collecting feedback, acting on suggestions, providing training, and recognising staff contributions.

Monitoring Plan Progress

The Continuous Improvement Register tracks all improvement activities. To ensure success, we establish KPIs, convene regular review meetings, conduct audit and compliance checks, and report progress consistently to the board, staff, and participants.

Continuous Improvement Panel Terms of Reference

The Continuous Improvement Panel convenes annually to assess and identify opportunities to enhance service quality. Chaired by the Representative Position Title or their delegate, the panel includes representatives from people accessing services, families, carers, staff, volunteers, and management.

Roles, Responsibilities & Support

  • Panel Members: Actively contribute ideas, provide feedback, and disclose conflicts of interest immediately.
  • Chairperson: Guide deliberations, ensure productivity, and maintain focus.
  • Support for Members: The organisation provides coverage for reasonable transport costs and accommodates access requirements.
